Today’s book is SOOOO good!! As a voice teacher I find “The Teen Girl’s Singing Guide” a must read! Girls and Moms, you’ve GOT to read this book! It’s such a perfect time for reading with summer coming up… I’m going to refer to “you”, be it Mother or Daughter. Let’s dig in!
Sing or Die… ( part 1, page 21) OMG, I love this! Where was this book when I was a teenager?!?! It will lead you and guide you. There is a fabulous list of questions that you can ask yourself. Get yourself a journal and start writing the answers down. When you take pen (or pencil!) to paper, the literal action of your hand writing it physically gets your brain in gear!!
“What path do you want to take?” “How do I do this?” Are just a few of the questions that this book will ask you…and help you answer!
One of my favorite topics is of course, about taking singing lessons and finding a great teacher. Truly, this is an absolute must! Growth comes from work and directed practice. What is directed practice? When you have a teacher that you trust, they will help you find the best way for you to grow and improve your singing skills. When I am directing the practice of my students, they are more efficient in their practice time and therefore grow more quickly! This equals bigger ranges, more songs in the repertoire, and strong vocal health. As a voice teacher and any of you who are my students now, KNOW how I feel about vocal health!
One of the biggest thing that speaks to my heart is about playing piano or guitar…(Part 2, Page 103). I love her answer..”no-ish”, lol!!! Sure, you don’t have to play piano or guitar to be a great singer…but how much better could you be as a singer if you had one (or both!) of those skills!! Many of you know I am working on a course for piano that is simple and quick and fun! More on that later…
The resources Nancy mentions in the book are absolutely imperative for all to know. You’ll find them mentioned throughout the book and at the end. Be SURE to check those out! And her discussion about practice!!! As a voice teacher AND a performer, I personally use the Practice Log by Nancy, I even did a Facebook Live on it! Here it is…
