Dearest friends, it is almost 2018! As I write this, today is the day of Winter Solstice. The shortest day of the year. Which means…every day is longer as we move forward! Use those 24 hours to the best of your ability. Fill them with family and friends and the work that brings you joy. Fill them with books and learning and things that make you think BIG thoughts. Fill them with service to your community and neighborhood and those in need. So…now you know my New Year’s Resolutions. Not only that, here is my word for 2018…
Clarity…in all things. Clarity in my life’s dreams and goals. Clarity in the well-being of my beloved family. Clarity in how I spend my precious time. My teacher and I have made a HUGE plan for 2018. It’s scary and exciting and overwhelming. That is how clarity was born. I’ve been thinking and reading and studying and I am SO CLEAR on what I need to do. 🙋 What do YOU need to do?
Share your word with me! I’d love to hear from you. XO
Ok, on to recommendations! First of all, I recommend you get a coach, a teacher, a mentor, a someone, who holds you accountable! Someone who knows your industry and is willing to teach it to you. Someone who has your best interest at heart. I am a big believer in that. The only way to grow, in my opinion, is to get yourself a coach.
On that note…I’m gonna start with my new business coach, voice teacher coach and all around kick-ass coach! Michelle runs an amazing, kinda secret group for voice teachers and it is in a word (actually 3 words) ah-may-zing. The peeps in this group are soops smart, clever, and willing to share. I have never been involved with something like this. We give each other advice, offer support and love and the wealth of knowledge is immeasurable. Smartest freaking thing I did for my biz this year. My teaching has been upleveled in more ways than I can count and my students are reaping the benefits of it! Check her out at Faith, Culture, Kiss! Michelle is now my official biz coach. She is all things lovely and smart and booty kicking and pushy and snarky and damn fun. And, when I’m driving my new car, to the airport going on vacay to Bora Bora (my family’s dream vacay), I’ll try not to say I told you to get a coach and you didn’t listen!!! 😏
Staying in the coaching mode, I also just joined Sheri Sanders, Rock The Audition, recommended by my friend, Amanda, (who also recommended Michelle), (so glad we have become such close friends, Amanda, I adore you, XO 😍), (here’s Amanda’s website!,) and this class is already blowing my mind. Once again, what I learn is what you learn! I just started this class so I will be updating you on this but I am already…WOW!
Next up is a new friend from The SpeakEasy (the is the FB group of voice teachers, but you gotta join! go to the above mentioned Faith, Culture, Kiss and become a member NOW!) , an enormously talented woman, Nikki! Founder and creator of The Full Voice and also the Podcast The Full Voice. She created a great system of books to help teach music theory! WHAT?! I am constantly working on finding ways to teach theory to my students and keep it interesting and fun and educational. You’ve got to check it out!!
Let’s talk about money. We all want more of it and to understand it and how to use it properly. Head on over to The Money Musician. Jeremiah (yup, you guessed it, met him at the SpeakEasy!) has tons of answers and ways to help musicians and creatives. I had a conversation with him that LITERALLY made me change like 10 things I was doing wrong. Get on it. It’s your money. It’s your future. Take care of it. update The Money Musician is still a work in progress! I recommend Jean Chatzsky of HerMoney and David Bach of The Latte Factor. He is completely responsible for Den and I having a 401k! You can have one, too, even if you are self employed! More on that in another post.
DO YOU HAVE A WEBSITE??? Ok, I bet you do. IS IT GORGEOUS AND AWESOME?!?! Lol, ok, I’ll stop yelling at you! Please, for the love of all that is good, have my dear friend, my smart friend, my oh-so-talented friend, Lisa help you out! She owns Geek Girls in Vegas and her sites are positively gorgeous! Go see what I mean!! Do yourself a favor and have her help you out. It makes a huge difference when your site is updated and represents you properly. It’s all in the branding, kid! 😉
One of my favorite musicians and one of my favorite people in the world is Shelly Bort. I found her online and started
stalking following her everywhere and WTH, we met and became friends in real life. She is SOOOO talented and lovely and wow and her songs are SOOOOO pretty and I have the huge girl crush on her. Go to her page and buy everything. Now. Thanks. Love you. Mean it. 💋
I meant to put this in, but the holidays got the best of me, LOL! 😂 Read as much as you can. Books are your friends. Smart people share a lot of stuff on the web, so go find it! One of the best places to read good content is Medium. Follow me there and you can see who I have followed and what I’ve given hand claps to and what I’ve read. The books I have read this year and/or are still/again reading are…You Are A Badass, I Hope I Screw This Up, Essentialism, Breaking The Time Barrier, Write It Down, Make It Happen (for the third time!) Colleges That Change Lives, The Art of Asking, The Slight Edge, This Is Marketing.
Dang, I could go on and on. Read books. Listen to Podcasts. Get a coach. Do positive stuff. Be flexible in thought. Work out. Love. As much as you can. Here’s to 2018, we’ve got this!!!
