Rehearsal. What does it mean to you? Today, my post is up a bit late as Monday’s are my day of rehearsal. Mostly, with Dangerous Curves, my girl trio, but also for my solo work.
Generally speaking, rehearsal applies to music. And, weddings. But, how else could we as human beings apply the word rehearsal to make our lives better?
Could you rehearse the speech you make to your husband or wife when they get home from work and you launch into the list of things that need to be done, and did they pay the bills and why did they, blah, blah, blah??? What about when you ask your child how school was and they better have done well on the spelling test and did they turn in their homework, etc??? What about what you tell yourself? The incessant critique of how you look or what you’re wearing or how you are parenting.
What if, just like the songs we learn, the speeches at weddings we practice, the emails we write and rewrite, we rehearse a positive stream of thoughts for ourselves? Rehearse a loving and thoughtful few questions for our spouses or kids? Questions that support and uplift and promote real happiness. Positive thoughts for ourselves, that become so well rehearsed, it becomes the norm to think those happy peppy thoughts.
Let’s do that! Let’s give some real rehearsal time to perfecting our inner and outer dialogue so that it creates a real change in ourselves and those most near and dear. What would that be like?! Do it. And, let me know how it works for you. I’ll do the same…
